Your digits may not be safe when hitting up Tesla’s badass, angular frunk. Doug DeMuro’s in-depth Cybertruck review reignited safety concerns over the front trunk’s sensor sensitivity – or lack thereof.
In classic DeMuro fashion, the prolific auto reviewer didn’t mince words on the Cybertruck’s controversial frunk. “Getting into this frunk is a harrowing experience,” he exclaimed, detailing how the slab-like lid slammed shut perilously close to his hand. “A less nimble person could easily lose some digits here.”
The Cybertruck’s frunk has raised red flags since its unveiling, with many questioning if the origami-esque design sacrifices safety for style.
Tesla will be sending out an over-the-air software update that makes the Cybertruck frunk more sensitive to small objects to better help prevent potential injury.
Luckily, salvation for our wayward phalanges may be nigh. After DeMuro’s scathing review set X/Twitter ablaze, Tesla’s Cybertruck Lead Engineer Reliability Wes reaffirmed “a big improvement coming via OTA” to address the frunk fail. Could smarter sensors and adjusted closing speed finally give the Cybertruck’s frunk some mercy?
