Xpeng Motors, a leading player in China’s electric vehicle market, is shifting gears to accelerate its presence in the burgeoning Robotaxi sector. The company has launched a recruitment drive for top-tier talent, offering competitive salaries to attract professionals with experience from global Robotaxi leaders.
Xpeng’s job listings reveal the company’s intent to build a robust Robotaxi division. Key positions include a Robotaxi Operations Director and a Senior Operations Manager. The Operations Director role comes with a particularly attractive compensation package, ranging from 40k to 60k RMB per month, with an annual payout structure that pushes total compensation close to 1 million RMB.
The job requirements for these positions underscore Xpeng’s commitment to excellence in the Robotaxi field. Candidates for the Operations Director role must have a track record at leading Robotaxi companies, demonstrating hands-on experience in managing autonomous Robotaxi operations and developing end-to-end autonomous driving systems. Leadership experience is also crucial, with the ability to manage teams of 20 to 50 people being a key requirement.
While Xpeng is ramping up its Robotaxi efforts, He Xiaopeng, has previously indicated a measured approach to market entry. He anticipates a critical industry turning point by 2026, citing current challenges in capability, regulatory approval, and commercial viability. Xpeng aims to introduce a competitive Robotaxi product by 2026 but does not plan to enter the operations market directly.
The timing of Xpeng’s Robotaxi talent acquisition aligns with broader industry movements. Both Xpeng and Tesla have announced product launches scheduled for October 10, with Tesla expected to unveil a Robotaxi product and Xpeng set to introduce its new P7+ model.
As Xpeng Motors steers towards a Robotaxi future, the question remains: will their high-octane hiring strategy help them overtake the competition, or will they find themselves stuck in neutral?
