XPENG and bp pulse have announced a partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), will merge their respective charging infrastructures to provide users access to over 30k+ charging ports across 420 Chinese cities.
The alliance combines XPENG’s 2k stations and 10k ports with bp pulse’s impressive network of 1k stations and 23k ports. This integration promises to address one of the most pressing challenges in EV adoption: charging accessibility. During the announcement, bp’s leadership demonstrated their commitment by testing XPENG’s S5 liquid-cooled supercharger, showcasing the advanced technology that will power this partnership.
The collaboration extends far beyond simple network sharing. Both companies are setting their sights on revolutionary energy solutions, including:
- Integrated solar-storage-charging networks
- Smart electricity management systems
- Advanced charging layouts focused on speed and affordability
XPENG isn’t content with dominating the Chinese market. By 2025, the company plans to expand its charging presence internationally, starting with a comprehensive in-car service platform. This digital solution will streamline the charging experience by helping users locate stations, find available chargers, and process payments seamlessly.
The partnership leverages each company’s unique strengths. bp pulse’s extensive site network throughout China provides prime locations for XPENG’s future supercharging stations, while their expertise in service management complements XPENG’s technological innovations.
The S5 supercharger’s specifications align perfectly with XPENG’s current vehicle capabilities, supporting up to 4C charging rates and 450V systems. With 5C-compatible vehicles on the horizon, the 720kW rating ensures optimal charging efficiency for multiple vehicles.
Rather than competing with China infrastructure projects, XPENG takes a collaborative approach to highway charging development. While maintaining flexibility for strategic partnerships near highway exits, the company supports government-led infrastructure planning for optimal resource allocation.
