Two Tesla locations became targets of suspected arson this week, escalating tensions around the electric vehicle manufacturer and prompting federal terrorism investigations.
In Las Vegas, a suspect dressed in all-black attacked a Tesla collision center early Tuesday morning, deploying Molotov cocktails against several vehicles and firing three bullets into cars. The perpetrator also painted “resist” on the facility doors, according to reports from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Deputy Fire Chief Jennifer Wyatt confirmed that firefighters successfully extinguished two Tesla vehicles before their battery systems ignited—a critical intervention given the notorious difficulty of containing lithium-ion battery fires.
FBI Special Agent Spencer Evans announced that the case, initially classified as arson, has been elevated to an investigation by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. “I encourage anyone that’s considering something like this to seriously reconsider,” Evans warned during a press conference.
The same day, Kansas City witnessed another Tesla facility attack. Police Captain Jacob Becchina reported that an officer noticed smoke rising from a Cybertruck in a Tesla parking lot.
“The officer used his fire extinguisher, however, KCFD was still needed as he could not put the fire out,” Becchina stated. “The fire spread to a second Cybertruck parked next to the original burning one.”
Kansas City authorities have opened an arson investigation into the incident, suggesting a coordinated effort against Tesla facilities.
U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi characterized these attacks as “nothing short of domestic terrorism” in a statement. Bondi emphasized that the Department of Justice would “continue investigations that impose severe consequences on those involved in these attacks, including those operating behind the scenes to coordinate and fund these crimes.”
The statement suggests federal authorities suspect organized involvement beyond individual actors.
In response to the Tesla facilities incidents, CEO Elon Musk posted on X: “This level of violence is insane and deeply wrong. Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks.”
President Donald Trump, has taken a hard stance, vowing to treat Tesla vandals as “domestic terrorists” and warning, “Those people are going to go through a big problem when we catch them.”
During an interview with Sean Hannity, Elon expressed frustration with what he perceives as left-wing violence: “I always thought that Democrats were supposed to be the party of empathy and caring, and yet they are burning down cars, firebombing dealerships.”
When asked to characterize the situation, Elon responded with a single word: “Terrorism.”
As investigations continue, these Tesla facilities attacks represent more than just property damage—they’ve sparked a national conversation about political violence and what drives people to target electric vehicle manufacturers.
