Tesla Australia: No Regulatory Barriers for FSD Supervised Release | Coming Soon to Aussie Roads

Tesla expands FSD (Supervised) to Australia

Tesla Australia’s Director has confirmed there are no regulatory obstacles preventing the release of FSD (Supervised) in the Australian market, potentially accelerating the timeline for the advanced driver assistance system’s international expansion.

In comments to local media, Tesla Australia head Thom Drew stated that FSD (Supervised) faces “no blockers” in Australia compared to its North American release. Revelation comes after Tesla’s AI team showcased the system successfully navigating Melbourne’s complex central business district in a demonstration video shared on X.

Melbourne’s challenging streets prove no match for FSD Supervised, demonstration particularly impressed EV enthusiasts by executing Melbourne’s notoriously tricky “hook turn” maneuver – a traffic pattern largely unique to the Australian city that requires vehicles to make right turns from the leftmost lane.

“That’s Elon’s push,” Drew explained about Tesla’s global FSD expansion efforts. “We have a global engineering team working across markets around FSD… actively working across all our markets to roll it out.”

While Drew avoided committing to a specific release timeline for FSD Supervised in Australia, his comments suggest the company is primarily focused on ensuring the system’s performance meets local standards rather than navigating regulatory hurdles.

“It’s something our business is working on releasing,” Drew confirmed. “I don’t have a timeline currently for you, but it’s certainly very exciting to be able to bring that to a market that doesn’t have a regulatory blocker.”

The absence of regulatory barriers could significantly streamline Tesla’s FSD Supervised rollout compared to other international markets, potentially making Australia one of the next countries to receive the technology after North America.

For Tesla enthusiasts waiting to experience FSD (Supervised) on Australian roads, it seems the self-driving future might arrive sooner than expected – the tech just needs to fully “hook” into local driving conditions first.
