Daimler Truck and Volvo Group have officially launched their joint venture, Coretura, after securing regulatory approvals for their binding agreement from last year. Partnership represents a strategic move to accelerate the commercial vehicle industry’s transformation through next-gen software-defined vehicle technology.
Operating from its headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, Coretura began operations in early June 2025 under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Johan Lundén from Volvo Group. Venture targets the development of standardized, open software-defined vehicle platforms specifically designed for commercial transportation.
The joint venture focuses on creating industry benchmarks through its software-defined vehicle platform. Rather than relying on traditional development approaches, Coretura is building systems that enable both parent companies and their customers to develop independent digital applications tailored to specific vehicle requirements.
Central to Coretura’s strategy is the development of a dedicated operating system for commercial vehicles. Platform will support the design and large-scale procurement of high-performance central computing units capable of managing data-intensive workloads across various commercial applications.
One of Coretura’s primary innovations involves separating software and hardware development cycles. Approach allows customers to purchase and update digital features through over-the-air updates, eliminating the need for physical modifications or service visits.
The company is implementing a customer co-development model, working directly with industry partners to understand specific requirements and use cases. Collaborative approach ensures that Coretura’s solutions address real-world commercial vehicle challenges while maintaining flexibility for future enhancements.
Despite their collaboration through Coretura, Daimler Truck and Volvo Group will maintain their competitive relationship in the marketplace. Both companies plan to offer distinctive products and digital services while leveraging the shared platform capabilities that Coretura provides.
With regulatory hurdles cleared and operations underway, Coretura appears positioned to deliver on its promise of transforming how commercial vehicles integrate software and hardware – creating a truly core-driven future for the industry.
