Tesla has launched a new lower-priced Model Y AWD model in the US, priced at $49,990. The new version of the Model Y has a range of 269-279 miles and can accelerate from 0-60 miles/hour in just 5 seconds.
Although the Model Y AWD model was first revealed and sold to factory employees during the construction of Giga Texas, it has never been sold to the general public until now. Tesla currently offers three configurations of the Model Y in the US: the AWD standard range, AWD long range, and high-performance version, priced at $49,990, $52,990, and $56,990, respectively.
The launch of this new Model Y configuration demonstrates the rapid increase in production of Tesla’s 4680 cells. Additionally, this configuration is designed to be eligible for the federal $7,500 electric vehicle subsidy, which can bring the price down to $40,000 with state incentives.
Within 10 hours of the announcement of the new Model Y AWD model, the number of orders soared to over 100,000, revealing the strong demand for Tesla’s affordable electric vehicles.
Tesla continues to innovate and provide customers with more affordable options, making electric vehicles more accessible to a wider audience. The launch of the new Model Y AWD model is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
