Apple’s new iPhone 15 series delivers several major changes across both standard and Pro models this year. What is the difference between iPhone 14 and 15? for the first time, the entire lineup adopts USB-C charging and the Dynamic Island screen cutout.
The biggest change across all models is the switch to USB-C, finally replacing the Lightning port. The iPhone 15 supports up to 20W charging via USB-C, while the 15 Pro models boost up to speeds over 10Gbps via USB 3.2.
Dynamic Island also expands beyond the Pro models to standard versions this year. The pill-shaped cutout packs notifications, alerts, and multitasking functions.
In the camera department, the iPhone 15 jumps to a 48MP main sensor from 12MP last generation. The Pro series keeps the triple lens setup with improvements, while the 15 Pro Max uniquely offers 5x optical zoom range.
Powering the iPhone 15 Pro is the new A17 Bionic chip manufactured on a 3nm process. It packs an extra GPU core and improved neural engine over the A16 in standard models. RAM remains at 6GB for iPhone 15 and jumps to 8GB for Pro.
This year also brings a refreshed durable titanium frame and redesigned flat-edge sides for a more seamless feel on the Pro models. Buttons shift to solid-state while losing mechanical parts.
Overall weight drops around 10% on the Pro series thanks to the lighter titanium build and reduction in size. The iPhone mini option has been discontinued in the 15 lineup.
With this major overhaul spanning displays, charging, design, cameras, and performance, the iPhone 15 series represents one of the biggest year-over-year updates in recent memory. Apple aims to validate the price premium it commands for its top-tier iPhone targeting professionals and power users.
