Tesla Deploys V4 Superchargers in China

Tesla has officially launched its V4 supercharger network in China, first known V4 Supercharger station has been installed at the Jiejiazui service area on the expressway in Dingxi, Gansu Province.

The V4 Supercharger technology offers substantial improvements over previous generations, with peak output reaching 500 kW and compatibility across voltage platforms ranging from 400V to 1000V. Enhanced capability enables up to 30% faster charging speeds for high-voltage vehicles, particularly those utilizing 800V high-voltage system architecture like the Cybertruck.

Despite the advanced V4 Supercharger capabilities, existing Tesla vehicles won’t immediately benefit from the improved charging speeds. Current-generation Model 3/Y, Model S/X vehicles continue to operate on lower-voltage platforms that reached their maximum charging current capacity during the V3 Supercharger era.

For these vehicles, charging performance remains consistent with previous generation infrastructure, delivering approximately 320KM (200 miles) of range in 15 minutes under EPA testing conditions. Limitation highlights the need for Tesla to update its vehicle architecture to fully utilize V4 Supercharger capabilities.

Tesla will need to implement next-gen high-voltage battery packs and electrical architecture in upcoming vehicle models to unlock the full potential of V4 Supercharger technology.
