The Model Y RWD provides an entry-level option below the Long Range and Performance trims. It is eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit, bringing the effective starting price down to $36,490.
According to Tesla’s specs, the Model Y RWD has an EPA range of 260 miles, which is 33 miles less than the prior base model, 0-60 mph acceleration clocks in at 6.6 seconds.
The RWD model still comes well-equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen-based infotainment system, laminated glass, heated front seats, 19’’ black Gemini Wheels Included and Tesla’s suite of standard autopilot driver-assist features.
By launching the more affordable Rear-Wheel Drive Model Y, Tesla aims to appeal to buyers seeking lower price points to benefit from EV ownership. This further positions the Model Y against competing crossovers like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Volkswagen ID.4.
Tesla continues to strategically expand its lineup while leveraging economies of scale. The new Model Y RWD allows more consumers to experience Tesla’s advanced technologies and industry-leading range at a reduced cost.
