Porsche has taken the wraps off the new all-electric Macan SUV. Set to launch later this year, the electric Macan ushers in a new era for Porsche’s popular luxury crossover. Two versions will be offered at launch – Macan 4 and more powerful Macan Turbo.
The Macan 4 packs a dual motor setup producing 402 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. Porsche says 0-60 mph comes in a quick 4.9 seconds, with top speed of 136 mph. The Macan Turbo turns things up to 11 with 630 horsepower and 833 lb-ft of torque generated by its twin motors. Hitting 60 mph takes just 3.1 seconds in the Turbo, with max velocity reaching 161 mph.
Both Macan models are equipped with standard adaptive air suspension and performance-focused chassis tuning. Optional rear-wheel steering offers greater agility while enhancing stability at higher speeds.
Powering the electric Macan is a large 100 kWh battery pack, with 95 kWh of usable capacity. Based on PPE pure electric platform and supports 800V high-voltage charging, enabling 270 kW charging on supported DC fast chargers. Porsche claims owners can add 62 miles of range in just 5 minutes using the fastest public chargers.
While performance is impressive, the electric Macan also promises greater refinement. Aerodynamics have been radically improved, with a low 0.25 drag coefficient cutting wind noise. Electronically controlled grille shutters and an active rear spoiler further boost efficiency.
The interior adopts Porsche’s minimalist aesthetic from the Taycan. Most functions are handled through the standard 10.9 inch touchscreen and 12.6 inch digital gauge cluster. Cargo space is quite generous at 18 cubic feet behind rear seats or 46.5 cubes with the seats folded. Towing capacity is an ample 4,400 pounds.
From a styling perspective, the electric Macan gains enlarged dimensions all around – about 2 inches longer and wider than its gas-powered counterpart. The stretched 3.4 inch longer wheelbase creates a more planted, athletic stance.
Pricing starts at $80,450 for the Macan 4 – a premium over the $73,000 gas Macan S with less power. The $106,950 Macan Turbo sits atop the range for now. Porsche is taking orders for the electric Macan immediately, with first deliveries expected in the second half of 2024.
Overall, the new electric Macan pairs the crossover versatility and premium ambiance Porsche is known for with greatly enhanced straight-line performance. The instant torque and refinement of electric power should convert even devout sports car fans. While not cheap, the Macan EV provides a compelling blend of practicality and driving excitement.
