GM is finally birthing its own EV truck, Chevrolet announced that production of the ultra-premium Silverado EV RST First Edition model is officially underway.
Chevy Silverado EV RST rocks a monstrous 754 horsepower dual-motor powertrain rocketing this beast to 60mph in a claimed under 4.5 seconds. That’ll pull pretty much any trailer or toy you can throw at it, thanks to 10,000 lb towing and 1,500 lb payload ratings.
Silverado EV is packing a proper long-range 440 mile battery to match, blowing past Ford’s Extended Range Lightning. Recharging that massive pack won’t be a total chore either, with 350kW DC fast charging enabling 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
Chevy’s Ultium platform brings some unique EV extras to the table too. Beyond seating for up to 6, the RST Edition includes GM’s latest tech goodies like a giant 17″ infotainment display, four-wheel steering, and offboard power capabilities for running job site tools and equipment.
Of course, being a limited first edition model means this particular Silverado EV variant won’t come cheap at a sticker price around $95,000. Also need a pretty massive garage, as this truck is 9 inches longer than even the Cybertruck’s massive footprint, that’s well into premium truck territory, even for an electric model. For getting work done and towing far, Silverado EV is probably the most practical all-electric truck on the market.
Then again, GM only plans a few hundred of these loaded RST trucks for the first production run before shifting focus to cheaper trim levels and higher volumes. Early adopters seeking maximum electric capability and range will happily pounce (and flex) accordingly.
With the first customer deliveries expected in a few months, the Silverado EV represents GM’s most formidable bid yet to challenge the EV incumbents like Tesla and Rivian.
