Tesla FSD v12.4.2: A Smooth Operator in the Making, Is Your Car Ready for the AI Revolution?

Tesla FSD

Tesla’s FSD Supervised v12.4.2 is hitting the road, Elon dropped some tantalizing tidbits about the update on X posts. Apparently, the upcoming AI model is set to blow our minds with a whopping 5X increase in parameter count.

Is this a case of too much horsepower under the hood? Elon’s cryptic message has set the rumor mill spinning faster than a Tesla’s wheels. The burning question on everyone’s lips: Will cars with the current HW3 hardware be able to handle this AI behemoth, or are we looking at a potential hardware upgrade?

Elon on FSD

Elon, in his typical fashion, didn’t shy away from addressing the elephant in the room. He spilled the beans, saying, “This release had far fewer interventions, but suffered in driving smoothness.” It’s like they’ve trained a professional boxer who can dodge every punch but can’t walk in a straight line.

The culprit? Apparently, it’s a case of too much ER and not enough GP. Musk explained, “It’s like a doctor training too much on patients in the emergency room vs training on preventative care.”

As for the next-gen AI model, Elon’s excitement is palpable. But his mention of the need for an upgraded “vehicle inference computer” has set off alarm bells. Are we looking at a future where current Tesla owners might need to trade in their rides for the latest model just to keep up with the AI Joneses?
