NIO and Jiyue have announced a strategic partnership focused on battery swapping technology. This collaboration aims to accelerate the development and adoption of battery swapping solutions across China’s burgeoning EV market.
NIO, known for its innovative approach to EV infrastructure, is teaming up with Jiyue, a high-end smart vehicle brand co-founded by Baidu and Geely Holding Group. This partnership will encompass multiple areas of cooperation, from developing battery technology standards to integrating charging platforms.
As of September, NIO has already established an impressive network of 2,510 battery swapping stations and 23,277 charging piles throughout China. The company’s ambitious County Charging and Battery Swapping Initiative, launched in August, aims to further expand this infrastructure to every county in the country.
NIO’s roadmap for expansion is aggressive. By June 30, 2025, the company plans to achieve nationwide charging coverage in all county-level regions and battery swapping access in 14 provincial-level regions. This goal is set to expand to 27 provincial-level regions by the end of 2025, significantly enhancing the accessibility of battery swapping services.
With Jiyue’s entry into the partnership, NIO now boasts strategic battery swapping alliances with eight major automakers. This growing ecosystem includes industry giants such as FAW, Changan, GAC, Geely, Chery, JAC, and Lotus, signaling a shift towards widespread adoption of battery swapping technology.
The collaboration between NIO and Jiyue represents a significant step towards standardizing and popularizing battery swapping technology. As these two innovative companies pool their resources and expertise, the future of EV charging in China looks increasingly “swap-tacular.”
