NIO ONVO Automotive has rolled out Apple NFC car key functionality across its latest vehicle lineup. The integration arrives as part of the company’s NT.Coconut 1.1.0 update, enabling them to unlock, lock, and start their cars using just an iPhone or Apple Watch.
Users looking to take advantage of this functionality will need an iPhone XS or newer running iOS 18.0 or above. For Apple Watch users, a Series 6 or later model with watchOS 11 is required.
Perhaps the most practical aspect of NIO ONVO Automotive’s implementation is the ability to share digital keys with family members and friends. This feature eliminates the need for physical key handoffs and provides greater control over vehicle access.
NIO ONVO Automotive has implemented multiple security layers to protect against unauthorized access. The NFC technology requires close-range physical presence, while additional encryption protocols safeguard against potential digital threats.
