NIO ET9 SkyRide Full-Active Suspension System Redefines Luxury EV Comfort

NIO ET9 Electric Flagship Redefines Luxury

NIO’s ET9 flagship sedan demonstrates groundbreaking suspension capabilities during its final testing phase. Li Tianshu, VP of Product shared insights into the vehicle’s innovative SkyRide Full-Active Suspension (FAS) system, marking a potential shift in how premium EVs handle road imperfections.

The SkyRide chassis represents NIO’s most advanced suspension technology to date. Unlike traditional systems that react passively to road conditions, this full-active setup anticipates and responds to surface changes in real-time. The system allows independent wheel and body movement, effectively creating a floating sensation for passengers while maintaining optimal road contact.

When encountering uphill obstacles, the SkyRide system employs a sophisticated approach: the front wheels maintain consistent ground contact while the suspension actively manages body motion. Simultaneously, the rear axle adjusts its position to ensure smooth transitions back to level ground.

The downhill performance is equally impressive, with the system executing a carefully choreographed sequence. As wheels descend along slopes, the suspension briefly elevates the car body before orchestrating a controlled lowering motion, virtually eliminating the jarring impacts typically associated with steep transitions.

The real breakthrough lies in the system’s ability to minimize cabin disruption. By allowing wheels and body to move independently, ET9 maintains exceptional stability while suppressing the pitch and sway that typically plague even high-end vehicles on challenging roads.

This advancement positions the ET9 as a serious contender in the ultra-luxury EV segment, where comfort and ride quality often determine market success. As NIO prepares for the ET9’s delivery, the SkyRide system could redefine expectations for premium electric vehicle performance.
