Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi: Tesla Robotaxi Could Be Our Biggest Competitor or Partner

Uber

In a new interview, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has addressed the elephant in the room – Tesla’s potential to become either Uber’s biggest competitor or most valuable partner in the ride-sharing space. His comments shed light on the complex dynamics between two tech giants at the intersection of transportation and automation.

The relationship between Uber and Tesla resembles a high-stakes chess match. With 150k Tesla vehicles already operating on Uber’s platform through individual owners, Khosrowshahi sees an opportunity rather than a threat. He argues that Tesla’s integration with Uber’s network could significantly boost the revenue potential and residual value of their vehicles.

Wednesday, Former Tesla executive Jorge Milburn has shared about the Tesla Robotaxi vs UBER, upcoming battle between Tesla and UBER in the autonomous vehicle space. His analysis points to a potential shift in the ride-hailing industry that could redefine urban transportation, challenging long-held assumptions about market dominance and technological capabilities.

Drawing an unexpected parallel to the food delivery industry, Khosrowshahi points to McDonald’s presence on multiple delivery platforms despite having its own app. “Economic laws apply to Tesla, just as they do to any other car company,” he notes, suggesting that maximizing revenue per vehicle ultimately trumps platform exclusivity.

The discussion becomes particularly interesting when considering Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities. Khosrowshahi envisions a future where FSD-equipped Teslas could seamlessly integrate with Uber’s platform, creating additional revenue streams for vehicle owners and both companies alike.

If Tesla chooses to remain independent, Khosrowshahi suggests other manufacturers will step in to fill the gap. This subtle warning highlights the increasingly competitive landscape of autonomous ride-sharing, where partnership networks may prove crucial for long-term success.

The ball now sits squarely in Tesla’s court. As Khosrowshahi puts it, they’re banking on “charm and the economic argument” to forge a partnership. Whether Tesla plugs into this proposition or drives in another direction remains to be seen.
