BMW China has struck a strategic partnership with Huawei to develop a comprehensive smart app ecosystem based on HarmonyOS NEXT, specifically targeting the Chinese market. Agreement will integrate BMW’s digital services into Huawei’s operating system, creating what both companies hope will be a seamless experience for BMW owners who use Huawei devices.
The collaboration represents a significant move for BMW China as it works to adapt its digital offerings to local tech ecosystems. With nearly 25% of MyBMW App users in China already on Huawei devices, the partnership addresses a substantial segment of BMW’s customer base in the region.
BMW’s digital integration plans include several key services that will roll out in phases:
- The MyBMW App and MINI App are already available on the HarmonyOS NEXT marketplace
- BMW Digital Key functionality powered by HarmonyOS NEXT will launch later this year
- HUAWEI HiCar with deep integration will debut in China produced next-generation BMW models in 2026
These services form the core of BMW’s strategy to create a more connected driving experience tailored to Chinese consumers’ preferences and technology habits.
Gao Xiang, President and CEO of BMW Group Greater China, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “By deeply integrating with the HarmonyOS ecosystem, BMW will enhance in-car applications and intelligent connectivity, delivering a more seamless and intuitive driving experience in everyday scenarios.”

The executive also highlighted China’s growing role as a global innovation center, noting that BMW is now entering what he calls “Local Collaboration 2.0.” This approach leverages BMW’s system integration capabilities to incorporate Chinese tech innovations into its vehicles.
The partnership will help power BMW’s next-generation models in China, which will feature an all-new intelligent electronic and electrical architecture. Vehicles will support advanced interactive experiences through the expanded digital ecosystem created by the BMW-Huawei partnership.
For BMW, this alliance represents more than just app compatibility—it signals the company’s commitment to developing market-specific digital experiences rather than simply importing global solutions. HarmonyOS NEXT integration should help BMW strengthen its position in China’s increasingly competitive premium auto market where digital features have become key differentiators.
As automakers race to harmonize with local tech ecosystems, BMW’s partnership with Huawei could give the German manufacturer a driving edge in China’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
