Tesla brings FSD to Australian roads, expanding global autopilot footprint, Tesla AI released its first-ever demonstration video showing the system navigating Melbourne’s streets, adapting to the unique challenges of right-hand drive markets.
Software update 2025.2.8.1 appears to have quietly introduced FSD (Supervised) capability to Australian Tesla vehicles. Keen-eyed owners noticed their Autopilot bank size increased from 1.65GB to 2.6GB—matching the storage footprint seen in US vehicles with FSD functionality.
“We’re seeing evidence that Tesla FSD functionality is included in the latest Australia and New Zealand specific software build,” said one Tesla owner who examined the update’s technical specifications. The increased storage allocation suggests Tesla is at minimum collecting shadow mode testing data from Australian vehicles.
The Australian deployment represents Tesla’s first full implementation of FSD in a right-hand drive market, requiring significant adaptations to the neural networks that power the system. Demonstration video showcased the system navigating Melbourne’s unique traffic patterns.
Unlike the recent Chinese rollout, the Australian version supports one-tap start from a standstill, allowing more seamless operation in stop-and-go traffic conditions.
