The 2023-2024 new Xpeng G6 has officially hit the road, y’all, with five fully specced-out models ranging from RMB 20.99 to 27.69 million ($29K-$39K). Test drives have already started at dealerships across China, and deliveries to customers will commence next month.

The G6 is the first Xpeng whip built on their new-gen SEPA 2.0 architecture. Compared to their previous models, the cost to develop this futuristic platform was cut in half. Even better, the time it takes to roll out new smart features has been reduced by nearly a third. Xpeng G6 also utilizes an 800V+ silicon carbide system that enables lightning-fast charging speeds. Pair that with Xpeng’s proprietary ultra-fast charging station, and the G6 can get 200 km of range in just 5 minutes.

As for how this thing looks, the G6 sports a seamless design with continuous light strips connecting the headlights and integrated laser radar on both sides. The body has smooth, flowing lines and an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.248Cd. adaptive rear spoiler does more than just look good—it actually helps increase range.

Inside, a vector star ring motif, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and massive 14.96-inch central touchscreen with Xmart OS 4.0 run the show. The new system integrates all the G6’s functions and includes full 4-zone voice control. Fancy features like 50W wireless charging, an 18-speaker sound system, automatic climate control, electric door releases, and Nappa leather seats provide plenty of comfort and convenience.

At 4753/1920/1650mm, Xpeng G6 is about the same size as the Tesla Model Y. However, thanks to the advanced SEPA 2.0 platform, headroom and seating space are more spacious than comparable models.

For the chassis, Xpeng utilized an aluminum die-casting front and rear body with CIB battery integration —the first of its kind in China. Torsional stiffness reaches 41,600 N·m/deg, besting many luxury vehicles. An all-new suspension with front double wishbone, rear independent setup, and tuning by Porsche provides a super smooth ride. The G6 achieved an 82 km/h score on the moose test, beating the Audi A8, Porsche 718, BMW X5, and more.

Dual laser radar and Xpeng’s upgraded XNGP intelligent driver assistance system provide advanced semi-autonomous driving functions without relying on high-definition maps. According to Xpeng, the updated system can handle 90% of driving scenarios, takes over from the driver 0.4 times per 1,000 km, and applies the brakes uncomfortably 3 times per 1,000 km. It even mimics the driving skills of experienced motorists, like turning and handling techniques.

So, what about the battery? The G6 is matched with two types of batteries, a 66kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and an 87.5kWh ternary lithium battery, with a CLTC range of up to 755km. And with 800V fast charging support, the G6 can reach 10-80% in just 19 minutes, with a charging rate of 300km in just 10 minutes, equivalent to adding 1km of range every two seconds, with a power of 280kW.

Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions will be available, producing 218 kW/440 Nm and 358 kW/660 Nm respectively. The RWD model does 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, while the AWD version cuts that time down to just 3.9 seconds.

No doubt about it, the Xpeng G6 is set to shake up the $35K to $49K price range intelligent new energy SUV segment. Starting at just RMB 20.99 million ($29K), the G6 provides maximum value. Xpeng’s CEO even boldly claimed the G6 could become China’s top-selling intelligent SUV in this price range within two months. We’ll be watching closely to see if the G6 lives up to the hype in China market!
