Tesla Model Y Takes the Crown as Best-Selling Vehicle in California

Tesla’s Model Y has officially taken the title as the best-selling vehicle overall in California for the month of June. battery-electric vehicle (BEV) market share in California also hit a new all-time high of 21.1%. This means that more Californians are opting for electric vehicles over traditional gasoline cars.

Tesla sold more Model Ys than all new Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Honda Accord, and Lexus NX sales combined. This is a significant milestone for the electric vehicle manufacturer, as it continues to dominate the market both in California and across the United States.

Tesla’s success in California is even more impressive, given that it has dethroned Toyota in their long-time core market. The Model 3 and Model Y now outsell the second-place per category by 10-1. This is a clear indication that Tesla’s strategy of focusing on electric vehicles is paying off, and consumers are taking notice.

Model Y best selling vehicle overall in California

Electric vehicles now account for over 22% of California’s car market, making it a leading indicator for the rest of the country. With the increase in production, Tesla’s delivery capabilities have significantly improved, and their electric vehicles have gained a significant share in multiple markets, surpassing some traditional gasoline car manufacturers.

In Tesla’s home state of California, their electric vehicle sales have been quite impressive, accounting for more than 10% of new registrations in the first half of the year. According to the California New Car Dealers Association, Tesla’s share of new car registrations in California in the first half of the year exceeded 10%.

The data from the California New Car Dealers Association shows that 905,752 new cars were registered in California in the first half of this year, an 11.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, Tesla’s new electric car registrations were 123,482, a 36.7% increase compared to last year. Tesla’s electric vehicles accounted for 13.63% of new car registrations in California in the first half of the year.

Reports also shows that the Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car in California in the first half of the year, with 74,765 new registrations. Its share of the luxury compact SUV segment was as high as 68.2%, surpassing a range of traditional gasoline cars, including Toyota Camry, Toyota RAV4, and Ford F-Series.

Tesla’s Model 3 also had good sales in California in the first half of the year, with 41,718 new registrations. The other two electric vehicles, the Model S and Model X, had 1,900 and 5,099 new registrations, respectively, in California in the first half of the year.
