Tesla delivered 336,681 vehicles in the first quarter of 2025, significantly below Wall Street’s expectations of approximately 377,000 units. The EV maker also reported total Q1 production of 362,615 vehicles, creating a notable gap between cars built and cars delivered.

Despite the delivery shortfall, Tesla’s energy business showed remarkable growth. The company deployed 10.4GWh of energy storage products during the quarter, representing a 156% increase year-over-year.
The company attributed the lower delivery numbers to manufacturing disruptions across its global factory network.
“While the changeover of Model Y lines across all four of our factories led to the loss of several weeks of production in Q1, the ramp of the New Model Y continues to go well,” Tesla stated in its announcement.
This explanation suggests that Tesla’s decision to update its production lines for the refreshed Model Y simultaneously at all facilities created a more significant temporary impact on output than investors had anticipated.
Tesla’s stock has already faced pressure in recent months as competition intensifies in global EV markets. These Q1 results won’t help its “charging” case with investors who have grown increasingly concerned about the company’s growth trajectory.
