Tesla FSD Supervised Approved in Netherlands €99/month — Europe Expansion Begins

Tesla expands FSD (Supervised) to Europe

Dutch road authority RDW has officially approved Tesla’s Tesla FSD (Supervised) driver assistance system for use in the Netherlands, marking a pivotal regulatory milestone that could reshape how the technology rolls out across the continent. It’s a significant move — and it didn’t happen overnight.

RDW didn’t rush this. The agency conducted rigorous testing on dedicated test tracks and public roads for more than a year and a half before issuing its type approval. In its official statement, the RDW noted that continuous, strict driver monitoring within the system makes Tesla FSD (Supervised) measurably safer than comparable driver assistance systems currently on the market.

That level of scrutiny signals to other European regulators that the groundwork has been laid — and the bar has been set.

What this means for Tesla owners in the Netherlands, Dutch Tesla owners won’t be waiting long. Subscriptions for Tesla FSD (Supervised) have officially launched in the Netherlands at €99/month, a strong indicator that activations on customer vehicles are imminent. Drivers will, however, encounter a practical limitation — a system notification will alert them when approaching a border where FSD remains unapproved, at which point the feature will automatically become unavailable.

That €99/month price point going live isn’t just a commercial decision, it’s a logistical signal. Companies don’t open subscription billing before the product is ready to deliver. For Dutch Tesla owners who’ve been watching this regulatory process unfold, the subscription launch is arguably the most concrete confirmation yet that Tesla FSD (Supervised) activations are right around the corner.

Here’s where it gets interesting for the broader European market. RDW’s type approval carries real weight under EU regulatory frameworks, potentially accelerating approvals in neighboring countries. Each jurisdiction still maintains its own authority, but the Netherlands’ thorough process provides a credible, well-documented precedent that other regulators can reference.

Question now isn’t whether Tesla FSD (Supervised) will expand further into Europe, it’s how quickly national agencies will act on the RDW’s lead. Given Tesla’s existing European footprint, demand from owners across Germany, France, and beyond is already substantial.

The RDW has done the heavy lifting; the road ahead for Tesla FSD in Europe is, well, fully supervised.
