Tesla Model S & Model X Plaid Signature Edition: 350 Exclusive Units at $159,420

Tesla's Final Act: The Model S and Model X Plaid Signature Edition

Tesla’s closing chapter for two of its most iconic vehicles isn’t quiet—it’s anything but. Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid Signature Edition are the company’s formal farewell to a production era spanning 14 years, Tesla ends Model S & X production, 750k deliveries, and a fundamental shift in how the auto industry views electric vehicles. With just 250 units of the Model S Plaid and 100 units of the Model X Plaid available, access is strictly invite-only, and pricing sits at an identical $159,420 per vehicle.

This isn’t a standard trim upgrade. Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid Signature Edition debuts a deep “Pomegranate Red” exterior finish—an intentional nod to the original Signature Red paint introduced with the Model S in 2012 and the Model X in 2015. Gold accents carry that premium identity further: a gold Tesla “T” badge up front, a matching gold Plaid badge at the rear, gold Plaid puddle lights, and a Signature Edition key fob round out the exterior presentation.

Inside, cabin goes white-dominant, with Alcantara trim, gold piping, and gold Plaid seat emblems. Each unit is individually numbered, a center console plaque reading, for example, “1/250” on the Model S, reinforcing the collector-grade positioning. Signature-branded door sills complete the interior’s bespoke character.

Both variants arrive fully loaded. Buyers receive FSD capability, lifetime free Supercharging, lifetime Premium Connectivity, and four years of premium service, bundled into what Tesla is calling a “luxury package.” That’s a substantial stack of long-term value built directly into the purchase price.

Where the two models diverge is in hardware specifics. Model S Plaid adds carbon-ceramic brakes with gold calipers—a performance detail that aligns with its track-focused identity. Model X Plaid, meanwhile, retains standard red Plaid calipers but steps up to 22-inch Machina wheels. Tesla Senior VP Tom Zhu has reportedly already secured a Model X Signature Edition, which signals how seriously the company’s own leadership views these units.

New Model X inventory across U.S. dealers has nearly cleared out, with only a handful of demo vehicles left. For buyers still weighing options, the roughly $30k premium over standard pricing is, realistically, the cost of getting one at all.

Tesla is planning an official celebration event in May to mark the end of the production run—reportedly taking place at sunset, in line with prior teases from Elon about a “final invitation.” Event is expected to serve as a retrospective on two vehicles that demonstrated EVs could compete directly with established luxury and performance marques.

As Fremont Factory production lines transition toward Optimus and upcoming mass-market vehicles, the departure of the Model S/X Plaid Signature Edition marks more than a model discontinuation, it’s the end of the era that made Tesla’s premium argument worth making in the first place. Call it a Plaid goodbye.
