Tesla Model Y OEM Retractable Sunshade Launches in China for $236

Tesla Model Y OEM Retractable Sunshade Launches in China for $236

Tesla owners have been vocal for years. Panoramic glass roof on the Model Y, while undeniably sleek, has drawn consistent criticism for transforming the cabin into an uncomfortably warm space on sunny days. Well, Tesla China has responded — and the market has noticed.

The company has officially launched an OEM retractable sunshade for the Tesla Model Y Retractable Sunshade, priced at RMB 1,499 (roughly $236 USD), with availability starting June 4 at 10:00 a.m. When fans Sawyer shared the announcement on X, the post crossed one million views. For a sunshade. That reaction alone tells you everything about the pent-up demand here.

Tesla didn’t just slap together a generic fix. Model Y Retractable Sunshade was developed with three priorities front and center: appearance, lightweight construction, and long-term durability — core engineering values that third-party alternatives rarely address with the same rigor.

Fabric matches the vehicle’s existing headliner material, and the pull handle features a metallic finish built to integrate naturally with the interior aesthetic. That level of intentionality matters to owners who’ve invested in a premium product and expect accessories to meet the same standard.

Critically, this isn’t just a comfort upgrade — it’s a safety-certified one. The sunshade has cleared full-vehicle airbag deployment testing alongside extensive road validation. Tesla confirms it won’t interfere with occupant protection systems, which is a non-negotiable benchmark for any in-cabin accessory.

System runs on an integrated frame and roller mechanism engineered for low-noise, smooth operation. Installation and removal are both designed to be straightforward, with the full assembly fitting through the rear cabin when the rear seats are folded down. Two-stage independent adjustment lets occupants dial in coverage without fussing over complex mechanisms, and front and rear locking points within the panoramic roof structure keep everything securely in place.

Compatibility is limited to Tesla Model Y Retractable Sunshade builds manufactured from February 2025 onward.

Tesla China dropping this accessory raises one obvious question: when does the rest of the world get it? With one million social impressions generated by a single post about a sunshade, global demand isn’t exactly subtle.

Sometimes, the simplest product moves the needle most. For Tesla, the Model Y’s hottest feature might just be the one keeping things cool.
