Ford Next-Gen F-150 Electric Truck Delayed to 2027, Promises Revolutionary Enhancements

The electric truck market has been abuzz with anticipation for the next-gen Ford F-150 EV, but it appears that Ford enthusiasts will have to wait a little longer. In a surprising move, the automaker has announced a second delay in the production of this highly-anticipated model, now pushed back to the second half of 2027. However, this delay comes with a promise of a truly revolutionary EV experience, one that aims to redefine the boundaries of what a Ford truck can be.

Ford’s initial decision to delay the next-gen F-150 EV from 2025 to 2026 was attributed to a shift in consumer demand, with the automaker focusing its resources on ramping up hybrid production to meet the growing sales in that segment. Now, the company has once again pushed back the timeline, this time to the second half of 2027, citing the need to incorporate extensive customer feedback and develop a product that truly sets new standards in the EV truck market.

According to Ford, the delay is not merely a matter of production schedules but rather a strategic move to create a next-generation F-150 EV that will feature “features and experiences never seen on any Ford truck.” This includes the implementation of bi-directional charging capability, which allows the vehicle to both charge and discharge electricity, and advanced aerodynamic enhancements that promise to deliver unparalleled performance.

The automaker’s decision to delay the next-gen F-150 EV also aligns with its plans to take advantage of the rapidly evolving battery technology landscape. By postponing the launch, Ford aims to capitalize on the anticipated decline in battery prices, which will enable the development of a more cost-effective EV platform that can be leveraged for the future F-150 EV.

Ford CEO Jim Farley has provided a tantalizing glimpse into what consumers can expect from the next-generation F-150 EV. Describing it as having a “futuristic styling that’s reminiscent of a Millennium Falcon with a porch attached,” Farley has also proclaimed that the EV will offer “stunning performance, like no truck has ever performed” and “unexpected innovation for truck customers far beyond the normal truck attributes.”
