Tesla 2025.2 Update: New Police Encounter Audio Recording Feature Enhances Vehicle Safety

Tesla's 2025.2 Update Introduces Police Encounter Audio Recording

Tesla’s version 2025.2 update introduces an audio data analysis feature specifically designed to improve how Tesla vehicles respond to emergency vehicles. Development represents a notable shift in Tesla’s FSD approach to data collection, expanding beyond visual inputs to create a more comprehensive sensory model.

December,2024, Tesla’s AI VP, Ashok, revealed that FSD v13.4 will incorporate audio input processing, leveraging the vehicle’s interior microphones.

When a police vehicle approaches a Tesla, FSD system will—with user consent—capture 10 seconds of audio before and after the encounter. Audio recording works in tandem with Tesla’s existing visual systems, effectively creating a multi-modal model that processes both sight and sound. Interface provides clear indicators: a green dot shows when the in-car camera is active, while an orange dot appears when the microphone is recording.

Tesla has implemented several safeguards to address potential privacy concerns. Tesla requires explicit user approval before enabling the feature and anonymizes all collected data. According to Tesla, the audio recordings cannot be traced back to specific vehicles or user accounts, as they’re not linked to VINs or personal information. These privacy practices align with established industry standards that have become common across automotive technology sectors.

The primary purpose of Tesla’s audio recording feature is to enhance vehicle response to emergency vehicles. By collecting real-world audio data of police and other siren-equipped vehicles, Tesla aims to train its models to better recognize and appropriately react to emergency situations.

Tesla’s vehicles might soon be able to “hear” trouble coming long before it arrives.
