Volvo has taken the wraps off its first ever all-electric minivan premium MPV EM90, model marks the Swedish automaker’s entry into the electric fully electric premium MPV.
The EM90 minivan is available for pre-order now in China, with deliveries to customers beginning shortly. Other global markets will see the electric minivan later.
Pricing for the EM90 starts at 800,000 Chinese yuan, equivalent to around $114,000 USD.
Powering the EM90 is a 116 kWh battery pack providing juice to electric motors , total combined output is 268 horsepower, allowing the EV minivan to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 8.3 seconds.
Volvo estimates the driving range on a full charge at 459 miles based on China’s optimistic CLTC test cycle. Converting to the more rigorous EPA cycle generally results in a 30% reduction – putting real-world range around 320 miles.
The EM90’s 116 kWh battery is the largest pack Volvo has introduced to date. Combined with an aerodynamic, sleek minivan body, it enables class-leading range to minimize stops for charging on road trips.
DC fast charging capability allows the battery to be replenished up to 80% in just 40 minutes. Bi-directional charging also enables the EM90 to share its battery capacity to power external devices or even supply energy back to the grid.
An illuminated crystal in the grille signifies the EM90 as a pure electric Volvo, interior provides seating for up to six passengers in a luxurious, upscale environment.
Adding to the lounge-like feel is the panoramic fixed panoramic glass roof that incorporates a massive 15.6 inch headliner display for infotainment. A high-end 21 speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system provides an immersive audio experience.
Volvo designed the EM90 minivan to be the ultimate family road trip vehicle. The combination of generous seating room, huge battery range, and premium amenities aims at comfortable long distance travel.
As the debut model on Volvo’s electric premium MPV, the EM90 also promises cutting edge driver assistance and infotainment power provided by Snapdragon 8155 chip Cockpit Platforms from Qualcomm Technologies as standard and 5G connectivity where available, OTA software update capability will enable continuous improvements.
