Lucid has officially taken the wraps off its new electric SUV, the long-awaited Lucid Gravity. Slated to enter production in late 2024, the Gravity promises an ultra-long driving range up to 440+ miles along with rapid charging and generous interior space.
Pricing for the Gravity starts at $80,000, pitting it against rivals like the Tesla Model X and Mercedes EQS SUV. Performance ranges from 500 to 780 horsepower depending on the configuration, allowing 0-60 mph acceleration as quick as 3.5 seconds.
The Gravity’s futuristic exterior retains signature Lucid design elements like the front and rear horizontal light bands also seen on the Air sedan. The interior features a flowing 34-inch curved Glass Cockpit display providing an airy, open feel.
Lucid says aerodynamics and interior spaciousness defined the Gravity’s engineering, SUV achieves a drag coefficient under 0.29 while offering over 107 cubic feet of cargo space, seating accommodates up to 7 passengers.
For convenience, the front trunk or “frunk” is large enough to hold items like golf bags while also incorporating padded seat backs and cup holders to function as a lounge area.
The Gravity’s powertrain and battery tech leverage Lucid’s in-house developed LEAP platform, long-range 118 kWh battery enables the 440+ mile range, while charging rates of up to 350 kW allow replenishing 300 miles in just 20 minutes.
Towing capacity is rated at a stout 6,000+ lbs, on par with truck-based SUVs. Lucid aims to balance performance, efficiency, and utility in a luxury package.
In a tweet, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson expressed his excitement after two years developing the Gravity, teasing an upcoming 1,200 mile road trip in the Air.
