Ford is Offering Free Level 2 Home Chargers and Installation to Buyers of EVs

Ford is taking a bold step to accelerate electric vehicle adoption by addressing one of the most significant barriers to entry: home charging. Starting October 1st, will offer a complimentary Level 2 home charger and installation to buyers and lessees of its electric vehicles, a move that could significantly boost consumer confidence in EVs.

This initiative, dubbed the Ford Power Promise, aims to simplify the transition to electric vehicles for consumers. Ford CEO Jim Farley emphasized the importance of this program, stating, “There’s no bigger obstacle than charging.” The company’s research indicates that nearly 90% of potential EV buyers would be more likely to purchase an electric vehicle if they knew they could charge at home.

Ford’s approach goes beyond just providing hardware. The program tackles several key issues that have historically deterred potential EV adopters:

  • Home Charging Confusion: Many consumers are uncertain about the process of setting up home charging, including where to purchase chargers and how to install them.
  • Cost Concerns: By offering free installation, Ford eliminates a significant upfront cost for new EV owners.
  • Technical Support: The program includes 24/7 support from experts, providing peace of mind for those new to EV technology.

While home charging is the focus, Ford isn’t neglecting on-the-road needs. BlueOval Charge Network simplifies road trip planning by automatically searching for chargers across various networks, including Electrify America and Tesla Superchargers. System integrates charging stops into route planning via the vehicle’s Connected Navigation.

To further alleviate consumer concerns, Ford is emphasizing its battery warranty. Every Ford EV comes with an eight-year/100,000-mile high-voltage battery warranty, providing long-term assurance to buyers.

Ford’s strategy contrasts with the industry trend of offering large rebates or cheap lease deals. Instead, the company is focusing on convenience, peace of mind, and expert service. This approach aims to address the estimated 19 million people in the U.S. interested in EVs but hesitant to make the switch.
