Tesla New Model Y First Look: Jay Leno Explores Tesla’s Most Advanced SUV

New Model Y

The automotive world got a special treat this week as Jay Leno took viewers through an exclusive first look at Tesla’s new Model Y, check out Youtube link. The latest iteration of Tesla’s popular electric SUV marks a significant shift in the company’s design philosophy, bringing back some traditional elements while pushing technological boundaries further than ever.

In what might be the most notable change, Tesla has reintroduced the turn signal stalk – a move that visibly delighted Jay Leno during his test drive. This decision reflects a broader acknowledgment from Tesla’s leadership about previous design choices. “We always say at Tesla, if you aren’t deleting so much that you have to put something back, you haven’t deleted enough. Well, maybe we deleted too much,” admits Lars Moravy, Tesla’s VP for Vehicle Engineering.

The new Model Y introduces sophisticated Matrix LED headlights, representing a substantial upgrade in both safety and functionality. The upcoming automatic adaptive driving beam feature promises to revolutionize nighttime driving, automatically adjusting light patterns to prevent glare for oncoming traffic while maintaining optimal visibility.

The Launch Series Model Y arrives with an impressive 458 horsepower, setting new standards for electric SUV performance. Tesla has confirmed that a Performance variant and seven-seater option will join the lineup later this year, expanding the model’s versatility for different market segments.

Perhaps the most intriguing announcement comes from Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen regarding the company’s autonomous ride-hailing service. Under the brand name “Cybercab,” Tesla plans to launch its first autonomous taxi fleet in Austin, Texas this June, with a rapid expansion planned across major U.S. cities by year’s end.
