Stellantis and its Chinese partner Leapmotor are preparing to invest $200 million in a Spanish manufacturing facility, according to sources familiar with the matter. Spain has reportedly been selected as the primary location for producing the B10 pure electric crossover, which is set to launch in the European market by 2026.
The companies are moving quickly to establish their European manufacturing presence, with production of the Leapmotor B10 expected to begin in early 2026. This investment represents a significant step in Stellantis’ strategy to expand its electric vehicle portfolio through strategic partnerships.
Why Spain? the selection of Spain for this investment wasn’t made by chance. The country has emerged as an attractive destination for EV and battery manufacturing due to several factors:
- Lower labor costs compared to other European markets
- Generous government incentives for clean energy projects
- Growing ecosystem of automotive suppliers
- Strategic location for European distribution
Sources indicate that the facility will be located in Zaragoza, northeastern Spain, though complete details about the site haven’t been fully disclosed.
Both companies are reportedly expediting component orders from Spanish suppliers to maximize potential government subsidies. Model B10 EV, which Leapmotor has described as the first model in its B series of EVs for the European market, aims to provide what Stellantis calls a “high-tech, affordable electric vehicle” for European consumers.
This timing aligns with statements made earlier this year by Leapmotor’s Senior Vice President Cao Li, who announced plans to begin local production in Europe by March or April 2026.
The Spanish investment follows a pattern of increased EV manufacturing in the country, with major battery producers like CATL and Envision AESC already establishing local operations. As Stellantis and Leapmotor power ahead with their plans, they’re clearly betting that Spain will provide the spark needed for their European EV ambitions.
