Tesla’s newest addition to its electric vehicle lineup is experiencing overwhelming demand in the Chinese market. Model Y L, a long-wheelbase variant of the company’s popular SUV, has completely sold out its October production allocation, with new orders now being pushed to November delivery windows.
According to Tesla’s official Chinese website, customers placing orders for the Model Y L today will need to wait until November to receive their vehicles. Rapid sell-through contrasts sharply with the standard Model Y, which maintains a relatively brief 1-3 week delivery timeline for Chinese customers.
What makes the Model Y L stand out, new model officially launched in China on August 19, with the first customer deliveries beginning September 2. Vehicle distinguishes itself with several key features:
- 6-seat configuration with premium second-row captain’s chairs
- Powered leg rests for enhanced passenger comfort
- Extended 751 km range on a single charge
The vehicle’s longer wheelbase creates a more spacious interior environment while maintaining the performance characteristics Tesla customers have come to expect.
Strong reception of the Model Y L could signal a shift in consumer preferences within China’s competitive electric vehicle market. As traditional automakers and domestic EV manufacturers continue expanding their offerings, Tesla’s ability to create immediate demand with model variations demonstrates the brand’s resilience.
With October production completely allocated and November delivery dates now being assigned, Model Y L appears to be driving the company’s growth strategy in what remains one of its most critical international markets.
