SpaceX has quietly launched its most affordable satellite internet option to date. The company’s new Residential 100 Mbps plan debuts at $40 per month, latest offering targets smaller households seeking reliable connectivity without premium speeds or costs.
What’s included in the new Starlink plan? residential 100 Mbps tier delivers capped download speeds at 100 Mbps while maintaining unlimited data each month. Upload speeds remain unrestricted, and new customers won’t face equipment charges or installation fees. “It’s designed as a simpler option for smaller households that don’t require the higher throughput of Residential Lite and/or Residential service,” SpaceX explains on its support page.
The company positions this plan for two to three-person households managing everyday internet activities—web browsing, video calls, and HD streaming. However, SpaceX cautions against expecting performance for heavy usage scenarios like 4K streaming or large game downloads.

With this addition, Starlink’s U.S. residential service now features three distinct tiers:
- $40/month: Residential 100 Mbps (capped at 100 Mbps)
- $80/month: Residential Lite (speeds up to 250 Mbps)
- $120/month: Residential (400+ Mbps speeds)
Despite its lower cost and speed cap, the $40 Starlink plan maintains several premium features, including unlimited data and unrestricted upload speeds. Hardware kit and installation are also provided at no additional cost, removing potential barriers to entry.
Current Starlink subscribers may switch to the Residential 100 Mbps plan if their account shows eligibility. Yet availability remains limited, $40 option isn’t accessible nationwide.

Strategic pricing shift arrives as SpaceX pursues aggressive discount campaigns across its service portfolio. If the Residential 100 Mbps plan achieves widespread availability, it could substantially grow Starlink’s subscriber base. Rural communities and underserved markets particularly stand to benefit from lower-cost satellite internet options.
For households watching their budgets, this new plan represents a genuine opportunity to reach for the stars.
