Tesla has quietly rolled out a feature that transforms its advanced driver-assistance system into a transferable present. Now permits vehicle owners to purchase Full Self-Driving (Supervised) subscriptions as gift cards through its mobile application.
Tesla added a “One Month FSD (Supervised) Gift Card” to its shop section, priced at $112. Amount accounts for a single month of service plus an estimated 13% sales tax buffer. Tesla designed the cards to work within its existing Wallet infrastructure, where recipients can store and apply the value toward FSD (Supervised) or other Tesla products and services that accept gift card payments.
Buyers must provide both recipient name and email address during checkout. The company emphasizes that all transactions are final, and the cards function exclusively within U.S. borders. Tesla warns that pricing fluctuations or tax rate adjustments could render the $112 value insufficient to cover a complete monthly subscription, though any remaining balance stays accessible in the recipient’s Wallet.
This distribution method potentially expands exposure to Tesla’s autonomous driving features. Current subscribers pay $99 monthly for FSD (Supervised), which enables vehicles to navigate roads with minimal driver input, though constant attention remains mandatory. Gift card approach removes the commitment barrier, allowing curious owners to test the system without initiating ongoing billing cycles.
Timing aligns with Tesla’s broader push to increase FSD adoption rates, last week, 1.5 million North American vehicle owners with HW4 hardware will receive access to a complimentary 30-day trial of FSD. By converting the service into a giftable commodity, the company creates an entry point for owners who’ve hesitated to purchase subscriptions independently. Whether this strategy accelerates long-term retention remains uncertain, but it’s certainly a gift that keeps on driving.
