SpaceX is experiencing what happens when free hardware meets pent-up subscriber interest. The company confirmed that delivery timelines for its complimentary Router Mini, included with the recently launched Starlink Residential Max plan, are stretching longer than expected. High demand is outpacing supply, forcing SpaceX to ask customers for patience while it ramps up production.
Starlink Residential Max plan launched last week as essentially a rebranded version of the standard residential offering. Pricing remains unchanged at $120 monthly, but SpaceX sweetened the deal with bundled hardware perks. Subscribers now receive a Gen 3 Wi-Fi router, a complimentary Router Mini valued at $40 that functions as a mesh extension device, and access to a free Starlink Mini rental, hardware that typically carries a $299 price tag.

That combination proved irresistible. SpaceX disclosed the supply constraint through a support page update, stating the company is “currently experiencing high demand for complimentary Router Minis.” Notice warns eligible customers about potential delays in claiming or receiving the device.
Some subscribers who transitioned to Starlink Residential Max last week received redemption emails for the Mini dish, though distribution appears inconsistent. According to updated support documentation, SpaceX experienced “a brief delay in sending redemption emails to eligible Residential Max customers,” with notifications rolling out over the coming days.
Timing aligns with SpaceX’s broader strategy to accelerate US market penetration. The company already serves over 2M+ American subscribers and recently overhauled its plan structure. Revision includes reintroducing Residential 100Mbps, doubles Starlink roam data to 100GB from 50GB, most affordable home internet tier Starlink offers.

To support this growth trajectory, SpaceX announced plans to double manufacturing capacity at its Bastrop, Texas facility dedicated to Starlink hardware production. Expansion should help alleviate current Router Mini shortages and prepare infrastructure for continued subscriber growth.
“We appreciate your patience and are working to make complimentary Router Minis available as quickly as possible,” SpaceX stated.
