SpaceX is making its portable satellite internet solution significantly cheaper. The company has reduced the Starlink Mini Kit price to $199 in the US, a 20% reduction from its previous $249 price tag and a substantial 67% decrease from the original $599 launch price. Latest price drop follows a holiday discount period, positioning the Starlink Mini Kit as an increasingly competitive option for users seeking internet connectivity on the go.
$199 Starlink Mini Kit price point started appearing today on the official Starlink website and at major retailers, including Best Buy and Walmart. However, there’s a catch. Customers must sign up for the Roam plan to purchase the dish at this price, which is mandatory for accessing satellite internet on the portable device in the US. SpaceX adds a $20 shipping fee, though retailers provide in-store pickup and potentially faster delivery at no extra cost.

Monthly Roam service plans begin at $50 per month for 100GB of data, scaling up to $165 monthly for unlimited data usage. Plans enable users to operate the dish while traveling and at multiple locations beyond a fixed home address.
SpaceX has simultaneously introduced a rental program offering the Mini dish at no upfront cost to both new and existing subscribers. Option comes bundled with the rebranded Residential Max plan (formerly known as the Residential plan), which maintains its $120 monthly rate, subscribers now receive a Gen 3 Wi-Fi router, a complimentary Router Mini valued at $40 that functions as a mesh extension device. Demand has proven so strong that the company has reportedly slowed invitations to claim this offer.

Rental arrangement includes important restrictions. “If you change your Residential service plan or cancel the service plan on your Mini, you must return the Mini or the cost will be charged to your payment method,” according to SpaceX’s support documentation. Purchasing the device outright provides more flexibility, allowing customers to retain the hardware even after canceling their Roam plan.
Starlink Mini Kit measures approximately the size of a school binder—considerably smaller than the standard Starlink dish. While it typically delivers slower speeds than its larger counterpart, real-world testing has shown impressive results. Device’s compact design supports mounting on vehicles, making it practical for road trips and mobile applications.
