Tesla has once again pushed the boundaries of automotive technology with the rollout of FSD (Supervised) v12.5.3 to select vehicles equipped with HW4. This update brings with it a feature that’s been long-awaited by Tesla enthusiasts: Actually Smart Summon (ASS), the next evolution of Tesla’s Smart Summon feature.

Actually Smart Summon represents a significant leap forward in Tesla’s autonomous capabilities. Unlike its predecessor, ASS endows Tesla vehicles with enhanced spatial awareness and the ability to navigate complex parking situations with unprecedented dexterity.

Tesla’s official announcement playfully describes the feature: “Buckle up for the ride of your life, except, surprise! You’re not in the car.” This tongue-in-cheek introduction belies the sophisticated technology at work, allowing vehicles to autonomously navigate to their owners or a designated location.

How Actually Smart Summon (ASS) Works

Using ASS is surprisingly straightforward. Tesla owners can access the feature through the Tesla mobile app’s Summon tab. From there, they’re presented with two primary options:

  • COME TO ME: This function directs the vehicle to navigate to the owner’s current location.
  • GO TO TARGET: Users can specify a destination for their Tesla to autonomously reach.

Both functions are activated by pressing and holding a button in the app, providing users with constant control over their vehicle’s movement. A live feed from the car’s cameras offers real-time supervision of the process.

Despite the advanced nature of ASS, Tesla emphasizes the importance of user vigilance. The feature is designed for use in parking lots and driveways, with users instructed to maintain constant awareness of their vehicle and its surroundings. This cautious approach underscores the ongoing challenges of developing fully autonomous systems in varied environments.

Tesla isn’t resting on its laurels with ASS. The company has already outlined several upcoming features, including HomeLink and myQ garage integration, operation without continuous button press, and extended operational range. These planned improvements suggest Tesla’s commitment to continually refining and expanding the capabilities of its autonomous features.

Tesla push the boundaries of what’s possible in autonomous driving, Actually Smart Summon represents a significant milestone. It’s a feature that not only showcases Tesla’s technological prowess but also offers a glimpse into a future where cars come when called – no magic wand required. In the world of autonomous driving, it seems Tesla is determined to make its mark, one summon at a time.
