Tesla’s ambitious energy storage project in Shanghai is rapidly taking shape, Lingang-based facility is set to become a powerhouse in the production of Tesla’s Megapack systems.
By late September, the main factory building had already reached 60% completion, an impressive feat considering the project only broke ground on May 23. This rapid progress puts the facility on track to begin production in Q1 of next year, showcasing Tesla’s commitment to accelerating sustainable energy solutions.
Once operational, the Shanghai Energy Storage Gigafactory will churn out a staggering 10k Megapacks annually. These large-scale commercial energy storage systems will collectively boast a capacity of nearly 40 gigawatt-hours, significantly boosting Tesla’s global energy storage capabilities.
Spanning approximately 200k square meters, the new plant is strategically positioned in the Lingang New Area, conveniently close to Tesla’s existing Giga Shanghai factory. This proximity is likely to create synergies in production and logistics.
The Energy Storage Gigafactory represents Tesla’s second major investment in China within a decade. Following the success of the Giga Shanghai, this new venture further cements Tesla’s commitment to the Chinese market and its role in the global energy transition.
It’s clear that Tesla is charging full speed ahead in its mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. With the Shanghai Energy Storage Gigafactory, Tesla is not just storing energy – it’s storing up potential for a greener future.
