Tesla has begun the rollout of its latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, version 12.5.6, marking a significant milestone in autonomous driving technology. This update brings a host of new features and improvements, extending advanced capabilities to a broader range of Tesla vehicles.
One of the most notable additions in FSD v12.5.6 is the introduction of End-to-End Highway driving for non-Cybertruck Tesla models. This feature, previously exclusive to the Cybertruck, now allows other Tesla vehicles to navigate highways with increased autonomy, from on-ramp to off-ramp.
The update introduces earlier and more natural lane change decisions, improving the overall driving experience. Tesla has also revamped its driver profiles, offering updated Chill, Standard, and Hurry modes. These profiles allow users to customize their FSD experience to match their preferred driving style.
Tesla has renamed its Auto Set Speed feature to Max Speed, likely reflecting a more intuitive understanding of its function. This change, coupled with updates to its operation, aims to provide users with better control over their vehicle’s speed in autonomous mode.
As with previous updates, Tesla is implementing a phased rollout for FSD v12.5.6. Initially, the update appears to be targeting HW4.0 (AI4) equipped vehicles running software version 2024.32.10. Industry observers anticipate a wider release, including AI3-equipped vehicles, in the coming days.
FSD v12.5.6 represents another step towards fully autonomous vehicles. With each update, Tesla’s vision of a self-driving future becomes clearer, leaving enthusiasts and skeptics alike to wonder: what autonomous adventures will the next version bring?
