NIO upped its game in the competitive electric vehicle space with pre-orders now open for four refreshed models built on its NT2.5 platform. The Chinese automaker has revamped its lineup with the ES6 SUV, EC6 coupe SUV, ET5 sedan, and ET5T touring model, each promising substantial improvements over previous iterations.
What’s catching industry attention isn’t just the hardware upgrades but the aggressive incentive package. Customers who finalize their configuration before June 30, 2025, will receive five years of complimentary battery swaps—a value proposition that directly addresses one of the most persistent pain points for potential EV adopters.
The NT2.5 platform represents more than just an incremental update for NIO’s vehicle architecture. Each model now features the horizontal center display previously exclusive to the premium NIO ET9, creating a more immersive cockpit experience.
NIO redesigned shift-by-wire steering column offers improved ergonomics, while the enhanced center console provides additional storage that urban commuters will appreciate. Dual cooled wireless phone chargers now come standard—a practical touch that acknowledges how central smartphones have become to the modern driving experience.
NIO has structured a staggered launch approach that begins with the ES6 and EC6 on May 16. Early enthusiasts won’t need to wait that long for a glimpse, as showroom models are already arriving in select cities.
The ET5 and ET5T will follow shortly after, with their official launch scheduled for May 25. Test drives for all four models will commence on their respective launch dates, allowing customers to experience the NT2.5 platform improvements firsthand.
Beyond the free battery swap program (which equates to approximately 240 individual swap sessions), NIO is also offering a 10k-point loyalty bonus upon delivery. Points-based approach to customer retention has worked well for the company previously, creating a community around the NIO ownership experience rather than just a transactional relationship.
The NT2.5 platform clearly positions NIO for its next phase of growth in the increasingly crowded EV sector. With these updates, the company isn’t just swapping batteries—it’s swapping outdated notions of what electric vehicles can offer.
