Tesla has quietly launched its first FSD (Supervised) demonstration program across Europe, giving customers a passenger-seat preview of what autonomous driving could look like on their roads. Starting this week, drivers in Germany, France, and Italy can book sessions to experience FSD technology in real traffic conditions, with one important restriction. A Tesla employee remains in the driver’s seat throughout the demonstration. Additional countries will join the program in coming months.

European regulators haven’t approved FSD software updates for consumer deployment, which means owners can’t activate the feature on their own vehicles. Unlike the U.S., where Tesla has rolled out FSD (Supervised) to customers, Europe’s approval framework operates on a different timeline. Ride-along format represents Tesla’s workaround, offering exposure without crossing regulatory boundaries.

Tesla is positioning these demonstrations as educational experiences. Participants sit in the front passenger seat while an employee controls the vehicle and explains how FSD (Supervised) navigates intersections, roundabouts, pedestrian zones, and highway merges. The company emphasizes that the system handles “the most stressful parts of daily driving,” potentially reducing accident rates and improving road safety for everyone.
That remains unclear. EU authorities haven’t announced a firm approval date, and Tesla hasn’t provided a public roadmap for consumer availability. For now, ride-along program serves as both a marketing tool and a patience test, letting customers sample FSD technology while regulators evaluate certification requirements. Until that regulatory green light arrives, European drivers will have to settle for supervised demos instead of hands-free supervision.
