Tesla Model Y Premium AWD Gets 7-Seat Option Available for $2,500, with New Black Headliner

Tesla drops seven-seat Model Y configuration alongside design refresh

Tesla has launched a 7-seat configuration for the Model Y in the United States, marking a significant expansion of the electric SUV’s versatility. Tesla rolled out several design updates across its Premium and Performance trim levels, fundamentally changing the vehicle’s interior and exterior appearance.

7-seat Model Y option carries a $2,500 premium and remains exclusive to the Premium AWD variant. Tesla’s implementation features fold-flat second-row and third-row seats, maximizing cargo flexibility when additional passenger capacity isn’t required. Configuration targets families and buyers who previously found the 5-seat layout insufficient for their needs.

Tesla has refined its manufacturing processes at Giga Texas, where production of the updated vehicles has already commenced.

Tesla has eliminated the grey headliner option entirely, making black headliner standard across all Premium and Performance trims. Creates a more uniform, upscale cabin aesthetic that aligns with luxury vehicle expectations.

Perhaps more notably, all Premium and Performance variants now include the larger 16-inch center touchscreen, an upgrade from the previous 15.4-inch display. Increased screen real estate and higher resolution improve interface usability and visual clarity for navigation, entertainment, and vehicle controls.

Tesla introduced new dark grey 20-inch Helix 2.0 wheels as a $2,000 option. Darker finish provides a more aggressive appearance compared to previous wheel designs, complementing the vehicle’s updated exterior trim.

Speaking of exterior changes, matte black badging now comes standard on all Model Y trims, replacing the previous chrome accents. Shift reflects broader automotive design trends favoring blacked-out elements over traditional brightwork.

The coordinated updates suggest Tesla is positioning the Model Y more aggressively against traditional luxury SUVs while maintaining competitive pricing. With production already underway in Texas, deliveries of these updated configurations should reach customers within weeks, giving the Tesla Model Y refreshed appeal just as competition in the electric SUV segment intensifies.
