Tesla has made a significant move in the European and Middle Eastern markets with the launch of the 7-seat Model Y. This new configuration, priced at an additional £2,500 for the Long Range All-Wheel Drive version, aims to cater to families seeking more versatility in their electric vehicle options.
Manufactured at Tesla’s Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory, the 7-seat Model Y offers a modular interior that adapts to various family needs. The two extra seats, positioned in the rear trunk area, can fold flat when not in use, preserving much of the vehicle’s cargo capacity. With the third row folded, the trunk still boasts an impressive 753 liters of space, only slightly less than its 5-seat counterpart.
Despite not extending the wheelbase, Tesla has implemented smart design choices to maximize interior space. The second-row seats feature a sliding mechanism, allowing for flexible seating arrangements. Additionally, USB-C ports in the third row and a convenient release button for easy access demonstrate Tesla’s attention to user experience.
Tesla hasn’t compromised on performance with this new configuration. Equipped with 19-inch wheels, the 7-seat Model Y boasts a range of up to 373 miles on a single charge, maintaining the impressive efficiency the brand is known for.
With a starting price of €57,490 in Europe and deliveries scheduled for later this quarter, the 7-seat Model Y is poised to build on the success of its 5-seat predecessor. Given the Model Y’s status as a top-selling vehicle globally and in Europe, this new variant could further cement Tesla’s position in the electric vehicle market.
While some may question the practicality of the third row for adult passengers, the additional seating proves invaluable for families with young children or those needing occasional extra capacity. The ability to accommodate two additional friends or family members, even if only for short trips, adds a new dimension of utility to the Model Y.
As Tesla continues to innovate and expand its product line, the 7-seat Model Y represents a strategic move to capture a broader segment of the family car market. By offering this enhanced seating capacity without significantly compromising cargo space or range, Tesla is proving that when it comes to electric vehicles, they’re not just along for the ride – they’re driving the change.
