Hyundai IONIQ 3 Debuts at IAA 2025: Compact EV Brings 365-Mile Range & Apple CarPlay Ultra

Hyundai IONIQ 3 Debuts at IAA 2025

Hyundai is preparing to unveil its latest electric vehicle, the IONIQ 3, at next month’s IAA Mobility 2025 show in Munich. Which slots between the Inster and Kona in Hyundai’s lineup.

Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, confirmed the upcoming debut in a recent interview, setting expectations for what will be the smallest member of the growing IONIQ family.

IONIQ 3 shares its underpinnings with corporate cousin Kia’s EV3, utilizing a front-wheel-drive layout and 400V electrical architecture. Hyundai claims the compact EV will deliver sub-8-second acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, putting it firmly in the “quick enough” category for daily driving without pushing into performance car territory.

Battery options will include two choices:

  • A 58.3 kWh pack offering approximately 260 miles of WLTP range
  • A larger 81.4 kWh pack extending range to about 365 miles WLTP

These figures should translate to competitive real-world ranges, though EPA estimates for the US market will likely come in lower than the European WLTP numbers.

Perhaps most significant is how the IONIQ 3 represents Hyundai’s shift toward software-defined vehicles (SDVs). New compact EV will run on the company’s new Pleos operating system.

IONIQ 3 will be among the first vehicles to support Apple CarPlay Ultra, a feature currently limited to select Aston Martin models. Expanded integration allows an iPhone to take over the car’s instrument cluster and provides users with the ability to control key vehicle functions—including radio, climate settings, and more—through the touchscreen, physical controls, or Siri voice commands.
