Cybertruck Lead Siddhant Awasthi Departs as Deliveries Slow: 55k+ Units Delivered Despite Challenges

Siddhant Awasthi, Tesla's Cybertruck program lead exits after eight-year tenure

Tesla’s Cybertruck program has lost its leader as Siddhant Awasthi announces his departure after eight years with the electric vehicle manufacturer. Timing raises questions about the future direction of Tesla’s polarizing pickup truck, which has faced production delays and mixed market reception since its dramatic 2019 unveiling.

Siddhant Awasthi, who rose from intern to program manager during his Tesla tenure, shared the news via social media platform X. “I recently made one of the hardest decisions of my life to leave Tesla after an incredible run,” he wrote, highlighting his journey that culminated in bringing the Cybertruck “to reality.”

While Tesla doesn’t publish official monthly Cybertruck sales figures, registration data and analyst estimates reveal a volatile delivery pattern. Initial deliveries began modestly in November 2023 with fewer than 100 units, before accelerating to peaks exceeding 5k vehicles monthly by mid-2024.

Recent data shows a significant cooling, with Q3 2025 deliveries falling to approximately 5,400 units—averaging around 1,800 monthly. Despite this slowdown, Cybertruck’s cumulative deliveries have surpassed 55k+ through September 2025, maintaining its position as the leading electric pickup in the U.S. market.

“The initial production ramp followed Tesla’s typical S-curve, but we’re now seeing demand stabilization at lower volumes than initially projected,” says automotive analyst. “Still, even with the recent dip, they’re outperforming other electric pickups in the segment.”

During his time at Tesla, Awasthi contributed to several key initiatives beyond the Cybertruck program, including Model 3 production, Gigafactory Shanghai development, and new electronics architectures. His exit before age 30 marks the end of what he called a “thrilling journey” that spanned multiple product generations.

Tesla hasn’t announced Awasthi’s replacement, leaving questions about leadership continuity for the Cybertruck program. The company must now navigate production stabilization and address the softening demand without its experienced program manager at the helm.
