SpaceX Cuts Starlink Aviation Prices – New GA Plans Start at $200/Month

SpaceX reduces Starlink pricing for small planes with updated GA plans.

SpaceX has revised its Starlink pricing structure for general aviation customers, marking a significant shift after backlash from the flying community. The company announced last week that both its local and global aviation plans now include more data at adjusted price points, though questions remain about whether the changes go far enough for occasional fliers.

General Aviation Local 50GB Plan now costs $200 per month, down from $250. SpaceX increased the monthly data allowance to 50GB—up from the previous 20GB—while supporting speeds up to 480 km/h. Additional data now comes in 50GB blocks for $25, a substantial reduction from the earlier $10 per GB pricing. Coverage extends across land, territorial waters, and within 12 nautical miles.

For pilots requiring broader access, General Aviation Global 50GB Plan remains at $1,000 monthly. However, SpaceX boosted the included data from 20GB to 50GB and reduced overage costs to $100 per 50GB block, down from $50 per GB. Plan supports speeds up to 720 km/h and provides land and ocean coverage.

According to a SpaceX support page, the revisions aim to “better reflect how customers fly—with more included data, simplified pricing, and clearer plan naming.” The company also renamed both offerings, replacing the Aviation 300MPH and Aviation 450MPH designations with more descriptive titles.

Despite the changes, many pilots argue the pricing remains impractical for typical general aviation use cases. One user noted that most GA pilots fly only a few hours monthly, suggesting $100 represents a more reasonable price ceiling. “Hopefully SpaceX is paying attention and figures this out soon,” they wrote.

Another pilot highlighted the accessibility issue created when SpaceX restricted its $50 monthly Roam plan for aircraft use. “Starlink is a game changer in GA and it’s the reason I bought my Starlink mini, but unfortunately many can’t afford this new pricing,” they explained. User proposed an intermediate tier—speed-capped at 200 mph for approximately $100 monthly—that wouldn’t require support contact for plan changes.

Does billing structure match flying patterns? Several community members questioned whether monthly billing aligns with actual usage patterns. One commenter suggested week-based rates would better serve pilots who fly intermittently, often with weeks between flights. “There should be a week rate, Starlink activation for a period of days,” they proposed, adding that improved pricing below 230 mph would address a critical market segment.

Feedback suggests SpaceX faces ongoing pressure to develop aviation-specific Starlink solutions that match both the operational patterns and budgets of general aviation customers.
