The electric vehicle charging landscape in the UK has witnessed a significant shift as Tesla’s Supercharger network secures the leading position in customer satisfaction ratings. This milestone marks the first year Tesla’s network qualified for ranking, following its decision to open charging stations to non-Tesla vehicles.
Zapmap’s annual survey, incorporating feedback from over 3,700 battery electric vehicle drivers, establishes a comprehensive evaluation of charging networks across the UK. The assessment criteria focus on five essential aspects: reliability, ease of use, customer support, value for money, and payment options.
With more than 860 charging points distributed across 80 locations throughout the UK, Tesla’s infrastructure demonstrates exceptional performance in key areas. Users particularly praise the network’s competitive pricing structure, which maintains lower rates compared to other rapid and ultra-rapid charging providers.
The 2024 survey introduces a new categorization system, dividing networks into ‘medium’ (100-300 charge points) and ‘large’ (over 300 charge points) segments. This restructuring provides a more nuanced understanding of the charging infrastructure landscape.
While Tesla leads the ‘large’ network category, Fastned maintains its strong position in the medium segment with 26 locations and over 150 devices. The company’s commitment to reliability and user-friendly payment systems continues to resonate with EV drivers.
The UK charging network expansion continues at an accelerated pace, with particular emphasis on ultra-rapid (150kW-plus) chargers and charging hubs. This development addresses the growing demand for faster, more accessible charging solutions.
The introduction of the ‘Up and Coming Network’ category highlights promising developments in the charging infrastructure space. Sainsbury’s Smart Charge emerges as a notable newcomer, demonstrating the increasing involvement of retail sectors in EV charging solutions.
